El Tesoro 85th Anniversary Extra Añejo (75cl, 40%)

This is an extra añejo tequila made to mark the 85th anniversary of the El Tesoro distillery in Arandas, in the Jalisco highlands of Mexico. It is bottled at 40% and made without additives. The blue agave is cooked in stone and brick ovens and crushed with a tahona. Fermentation is in open wooden tanks, followed by double distillation in copper pots. The spirit then ages in American white oak, in ex-bourbon and used whisky barrels. The nose brings roasted agave, dried fruit and spice. On the palate it is smooth and velvety, with caramel, vanilla and oak that linger on the tongue.
