Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Rye is a straight rye whiskey from Heaven Hill, bottled at 47% ABV. The mash bill is 51% rye, 35% corn and 14% malted barley.
After full maturation the whiskey is finished in a second new oak barrel that has been toasted rather than only charred, using a process developed with Independent Stave Company. The colour is burnished copper.
The nose brings toasted oak, crème brûlée, almonds and hazelnuts, with vanilla cream and baking spice. The palate is soft and creamy, with milk chocolate, vanilla and a touch of rye pepper. The finish is warming and moderately long, with black pepper, cinnamon, toffee and a little leather.
