Evan Williams 1783 is a small batch Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill, bottled at 45% in a 1.75 litre bottle. It has won gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the World Whiskies Awards.
Each release is drawn from fewer than 200 barrels aged between six and eight years. The mashbill is 78% corn, 12% malted barley and 10% rye, and the proof was returned to 90 from the earlier 86.
The nose is oaky vanilla with buttered toast, cinnamon sugar and a little fennel. The palate is semi-sweet, with honey, caramel, brown butter and nutty wood. The finish is lean and off-dry, with oak tannins and restrained honey.
