Finca Morenillo Celler Piñol 2017

Finca Morenillo is a red wine made entirely from Morenillo, a rare grape associated with Terra Alta. Celler Piñol revived the variety from a small parcel of vines planted in 1902, with an average age of about 78 years, grown organically with dry farming. The 2017 vintage yielded about 2,800 bottles. After fermentation in steel tanks, the wine aged for 15 months in new 500-litre French oak barrels, then was bottled after natural settling and light filtration. It shows spicy tones, blackberry, plum and a little black cherry, with well-measured oak. With air it develops pomegranate, blood orange and mineral notes. It suits Spanish meat and vegetable dishes, game and pork.
