Finlaggan Old Reserve is an Islay single malt bottled at 40% by The Vintage Malt Whisky Company. The distillery behind it is not named. It matured on bourbon casks only, which bring vanilla alongside the peat smoke, and its colour is natural.
The nose is soft peat smoke with roasted nuts, fresh seaweed, a light salty edge, dried citrus peel and creamy vanilla. The palate is full, with smoke around a round, malty centre, toasted oak, caramel and light fruit, and a little salt and ashy dryness. The finish is long, warm and clean, with lingering smoke, malt and a touch of pepper.
