Four Gate Batch 28 is the fifth release in the Kelvin Collaboration series, a barrel-proof Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 58.5% ABV in a 75cl bottle. Only 4,802 bottles were produced.
It blends bourbons aged 7, 8 and 9 years, then finishes the blend in Split Stave barrels made for Four Gate by Kelvin Cooperage. Each barrel combines staves from Australian Mariposa sherry casks and Anejo rum casks, so the wood influences work together rather than one after another.
The nose offers pecan pie, raisins, fig cookies and dried cherries. The palate is viscous, with caramel, dark chocolate, maple syrup and molasses. The finish is very long, with dried fruit and dark rum sweetness.
