This is Experiment No. 001, the first release in the Four Roses Experimental Series and the first cask-finished bourbon in the distillery's history. It is a six-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon in a 375ml bottle at 52% ABV (104 proof).
It uses the OBSK recipe, which pairs the high-rye mashbill with the K yeast strain, and is finished in Japanese Mizunara oak. Master Distiller Brent Elliott chose the combination after working through recipe, yeast, barrel, toast and char options.
The nose offers rich spiced vanilla, aromatic oak, baking spice, fruit and a hint of exotic wood. The palate is rounded and soft, with Mizunara character over the spice. The finish carries Mizunara influence, warm spice and oak.
