Frank August Case Study: 08 Winter Wheated Reserve is a Kentucky straight wheated bourbon, distilled, aged and bottled in Kentucky. It is the brand's second wheated bourbon, with wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain, and it was selected entirely from barrels distilled in winter. It carries an 8-year age statement, though it is closer to nine years old, and is bottled at barrel strength, 54.4% ABV. Each release is assembled from eight batches of eight hand-selected barrels. The nose brings crème brûlée, baked pear and brown butter. The palate shows dark caramel, maple and butterscotch with baked cherry, and the finish is long and warming, with vanilla custard and toasted oak.
