Frank August Case Study: 08 Winter Wheated Reserve is a Kentucky straight wheated bourbon, the eighth release in the Case Study series and the brand's second wheated bourbon. It is bottled at barrel strength, 54.4% ABV, in a 75cl bottle.
The barrels were chosen only from winter distillations, returning to the selection behind Case Study: 05, the brand's first wheated release. They carry an eight-year age statement but are closer to nine years old. Eight batches were put together, each made up of eight hand-selected barrels, and it was distilled, aged and bottled in Kentucky.
The nose offers crème brûlée, baked pear and brown butter, opening to honeyed pastry and toasted pecan. On the palate come dark caramel, maple, butterscotch and baked cherry, with a creamy texture. The finish is long and warming.
