Freeland Spirits Cask Strength Bourbon is a straight bourbon in a 75cl bottle, bottled unfiltered at cask strength. The mash is high in rye, made up of 70% corn, 20% rye and 10% malted barley.
After maturing in charred American oak, it was given a finishing rest in Pinot Noir barrels from Argyle Winery in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Freeland is a women-owned distillery in Portland, founded by Jill Kuehler, with Molly Troupe as master distiller.
The nose is rich vanilla, caramel and dark cocoa. The palate is led by vanilla and caramel, with fine leather, juicy cherry and baking spice. A high-proof start settles into a smooth, lingering finish of toasted oak and dark fruit.
