Glen Elgin 18 Year Old is an official Diageo Special Releases bottling from 2017. The whisky was distilled in 1998 and bottled at natural cask strength, 54.8%, in a run of 5,352 individually numbered bottles.
It is a vatting of two experimental batches, matured in sherry-style butts and refill European oak. Part of the spirit was made with a yeast strain more often used in millet-beer production.
The nose offers vanilla toffee, fennel, fresh-cut grass, baked apple and poached pear. The palate is very sweet, with honeycomb, sour apples and brown sugar, and the finish is medium and quite dry, with oak spice and anise.
