Glen Garioch – 15 Years Sherry Cask Matured (70cl, 53.7%)

This is a 15 year old single malt from Glen Garioch, in a 70cl bottle at 53.7% ABV. The whole 15 years were spent maturing in ex-Oloroso sherry casks, and the influence shows in the glass. The character is on the dry side, with spicy sherry, dark chocolate, fruit and earthy herbs, and a pleasant sweetness arriving late. The nose recalls a warm apricot tart dusted with cinnamon, with orange blossom honey, raisins and lemon zest. On the palate it is full and velvety, with raisin buns, caramelised orange, nutmeg and black pepper. The finish is long, with dates, buttered toast and dark chocolate.
