Glen Spey – 2008/2023 14 Year Old 1st Fill Oloroso Cask Murray McDavid (70cl, 46%)

This Glen Spey was distilled in 2008 and bottled in spring 2023 by Murray McDavid for its Benchmark series. It is a 14 year old Speyside single malt at 46%, in a 70cl bottle, from an edition of 1,231 bottles, without chill-filtering or added colour. It matured first in bourbon hogsheads, then spent four years in first-fill Oloroso sherry hogsheads of European oak from Jerez in Spain, a second stage that adds to the nutty character of the spirit. The nose offers fruit cake and cocoa with sweet malt. The palate brings praline and orchard fruit alongside oak. The finish keeps stewed fruit, caramel and spice.
