This is a 5 year old heavily peated single malt from GlenAllachie, bottled at 48%. The Meikle Tòir name is Gaelic for 'Big Mission', the aim being a smoky malt from Speyside. The malt is dried over mainland peat from St. Fergus, and the phenol level is 35 ppm.
The Chinquapin One matured for five years in first fill bourbon barrels and Chinquapin virgin oak barrels. Chinquapin is an oak found mainly in North America. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The nose is smouldering oak embers, roasted honey and liquorice, with heather, ginger, orange peel and butterscotch. The palate is creamy and intense, with heather honey, dark chocolate and crème brûlée. The finish is long and gentle, with aniseed, coffee and campfire.
