This is a 27 year old single cask Glenburgie, distilled in 1996 and selected by Gordon & MacPhail for its Connoisseurs Choice range. It was matured in a refill bourbon barrel and bottled at a cask strength of 57.4% in a 70cl bottle. Only 160 bottles were released.
Glenburgie's output usually goes into the Ballantine's blend, so single cask releases from the Speyside distillery are unusual.
The nose has cinnamon and soft ginger root, then stewed pineapple, papaya and an earthy base. The palate is rich and smooth, with honey-glazed toasted brioche, soft spices and vanilla, while tropical fruit stays central. The finish is soft and warming, with gentle spices.
