Glendalough – 7 Year Old Mizunara Finished Irish Whiskey (75cl, 46%)

This is a seven-year-old Irish single malt from Glendalough, triple-distilled in copper pot stills from Irish malted barley. It matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks before a finish in Mizunara oak casks from Hokkaido, Japan. Glendalough was the first Irish distillery to use Mizunara oak, and this was the first Irish whiskey finished in it. It was released in February 2022 and is bottled at 46% in a 75cl bottle, non-chill-filtered. The nose is fruity and floral. On the palate come citrus and orchard fruit, biscuity malt, vanilla, fudge and honey, with dark chocolate orange, sandalwood and cinnamon from the Mizunara. The finish is very long, with toasted oak, spice and lingering dark chocolate.
