Glendalough Single Cask Canteiro Aged Madeira Cask Finish is a single grain Irish whiskey from the Glendalough Distillery in County Wicklow, bottled at 42% in a 70cl bottle and not chill-filtered.
It spends at least three years in first-fill bourbon casks, then moves to an Oloroso sherry cask before a finish in Madeira wine casks. These casks were matured by the canteiro method, in which wine is aged under heat in warm lofts. It won Gold at the 2023 Meiningers International Spirits Awards.
The nose is rich sultanas, exotic fruit, mango, pineapple, orange zest and marmalade. The palate is rounded, with raisins, dark cherry, plum, vanilla and sweet grain, and a touch of peppercorn spice. The finish brings dark stone fruit, oak spices and a slight nuttiness.
