Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix is a one-off Speyside single malt made after heavy snow collapsed several warehouse roofs at the distillery on 7th January 2010. The casks beneath, ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry and between 13 and 30 years old, were rescued and vatted together by Malt Master Brian Kinsman.
Bottled in 2010 at 47.6% without chill filtration, it was released in a run of 12,000 bottles.
The nose is fruit-forward, with pears, grapes in syrup, raisins, honey and buttered toast, then cinnamon and apple. The palate is honeyed and fruity with bittersweet chocolate, melon and pineapple, and the finish is spicy and oaky with a faint wisp of wood smoke.
