Glenmorangie – Allta Private Edition (75cl, 51.2%)

Glenmorangie Allta is the tenth release in the Private Edition series from Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, bottled at 51.2% ABV in a 750ml bottle and non-chill filtered. Allta is Gaelic for wild. It is believed to be the first Scotch made with a previously unknown wild yeast strain, which Director of Distilling Dr Bill Lumsden found growing on Cadboll barley near the distillery. The spirit was matured in ex-bourbon barrels, mostly second-fill and refill casks, chosen to let the character of the yeast come through. The nose is yeasty biscuit with orange blossom, banana and vanilla. The palate is silky, with cream soda, mandarin, baking spice and soft malt, and the finish is long with gentle clove and sweet citrus.
