Glenmorangie – Bacalta Private Edition 8 (70cl, 46%)

Bacalta is the eighth Private Edition from Glenmorangie, a Highland single malt bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. The name is Gaelic for 'baked', a nod to the long, mild sunny days of Madeira. After its initial maturation, the whisky was finished in casks that previously held Malmsey Madeira, which adds warm, sweet notes. The nose is intensely sweet with honey, ripe apricot, mead, mineral notes and white chocolate. The palate opens with minted toffee, baked fruit, caramelised orange and apricot, honey, almonds and dates. The finish is rich and syrupy, with marzipan, white pepper, honeydew melon and a menthol and eucalyptus background.
