Glenmorangie – Dr Bill Lumsden x Azuma Makoto 23 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

A 23 year old Highland single malt from Glenmorangie, made by Dr Bill Lumsden in collaboration with the Japanese botanical artist Azuma Makoto. It is a limited edition inspired by the Japanese idea of Shinra Bansho, the interconnectedness of all natural elements, and is bottled at 46% ABV. The whisky was matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in chardonnay casks from Meursault in Burgundy, the first time Glenmorangie has used such casks. The bottle carries a floral motif inspired by Makoto's work. The nose is floral, with honeysuckle, rose petals and chamomile around apricot, toffee and a little tobacco. The palate is creamy, with honeyed almonds, candied ginger and orchard fruit, and the finish is long, with dark chocolate and orange zest.
