Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1996 is a Highland single malt distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2019 at 23 years old, at 43%. It is the sixth release of the Bond House No. 1 Collection.
The whole maturation took place in first-fill, custom-designed American white oak casks. The oak comes from the Ozark Mountains, is heavily toasted and lightly charred, and was seasoned with bourbon before filling.
The nose is floral and perfumed, with rose, carnation and jasmine, a hint of coriander, then mandarin, pear and candied fruit. On the palate there is zesty orange and lemon, soft vanilla and fudge, gentle ginger and sweet chilli over subtle oak. The finish is delicate, with almond, pear and a soft cake-mix note.
