This is a Glenmorangie finished in Port wood, from the 1990s. Glenmorangie was one of the first distilleries to experiment with cask finishing.
The character is savoury and meaty, with bright red berry and spiced fruit. The nose offers strawberry shortbread, red berries with icing sugar, bramble jelly, liquorice and sweet cured ham. On the palate come red cherry, cranberry, fragrant herbs, spicy wood and jam on brown bread. The finish brings more red berry jam, malty bread and aromatic spices, drying to herbal, earthy tannins with honey-glazed ham.
