Glenmorangie – Signet Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 46%)

Glenmorangie Signet is a Highland single malt, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It was released in 2008 and reflects the work of Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Director of Distilling. Its distinctive feature is heavily roasted chocolate malt barley, a technique borrowed from stout brewing and described as a first for Scotch whisky. The whisky combines older stocks, some matured for up to 40 years, with spirit aged in virgin American oak casks of Dr Lumsden's own design, alongside bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. The notes describe dark chocolate and ground espresso with vanilla, butterscotch and spiced dried fruit, then a silky palate of mocha, cocoa, caramelised orange and nutmeg.
