Glenmorangie Signet is a Highland single malt, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It was released in 2008 and comes from Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Director of Distilling.
Heavily roasted chocolate malt barley, a technique borrowed from stout brewing, is what sets it apart, and it is described as a first for Scotch whisky. Older stocks, some matured for up to 40 years, are married with spirit from virgin American oak casks of Dr Lumsden's own design, plus bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.
Tasting notes mention dark chocolate and ground espresso with vanilla, butterscotch and spiced dried fruit, followed by a silky palate of mocha, cocoa, caramelised orange and nutmeg.
