Glenmorangie The Altus is a 25-year-old single malt from the Tain distillery in the Highlands, created by Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation. The name is Latin for 'high', a nod to the tallest stills in Scotland. It is bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle.
The whisky matures mainly in bespoke bourbon casks made from slow-growth American white oak, air-dried and heavily toasted to Lumsden's specification. A small portion is finished in Malmsey Madeira casks.
The nose is rich yet soft, with carnation, rose, orange blossom, honey and peach, then vanilla, almond and nutty toffee. The palate is oily, with mandarin, apple, pear, peach, tart gooseberry and almond marzipan, and the finish is long, smooth and sweet.
