Hanyu – 1988-2008 Single Nippon Malt Whisky (70cl, 55%)

A single malt from the Hanyu distillery in Japan, distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2008. It is bottled at 55% in a 70cl bottle. The nose opens with plum wine, wood smoke and small tart autumn apples. A few drops of water bring out dry dark chocolate, oriental spices and a hint of tropical fruit. The palate is dense and full-bodied, with bitter chocolate and plum wine, then black liquorice, aniseed and turmeric, and a little smoke. The finish is long, warm and dry, with oak tannins and raisin sweetness.
