High West Double Rye is a blend of two straight rye whiskies from two different distilleries, bottled by the Utah-based High West in a 75cl bottle at 46% ABV.
The blend pairs a 2-year-old rye, with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% barley malt, and a 16-year-old rye made from 53% rye and 37% corn. The older whisky adds caramel sweetness and woody vanilla richness to soften the bite of the younger one.
The nose offers mint, clove, cinnamon, liquorice root, pine nuts and dark chocolate, with gin-like botanicals throughout. The palate opens with prickly rye spice, then menthol, eucalyptus, wildflower honey and icing sugar, leading to a vibrant finish.
