High West Double Rye is a blend of two straight rye whiskeys, bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle. One part is a younger rye from MGP in Indiana, made from 95% rye and 5% malted barley and distilled on a column still. The other is High West's own pot-still whiskey, made from 80% rye and 20% malted rye.
The column-distilled whiskey brings sharp rye spice, and the pot-distilled one adds rounder caramel sweetness and woody vanilla.
The nose offers spearmint, clove, cinnamon bark and liquorice root, with juniper underneath. Peppery rye spice leads the palate, then menthol, eucalyptus and herbal tea, before wildflower honey and allspice appear. The finish is medium-long, with cinnamon and mint.
