High West Double Rye is a blend of two straight rye whiskeys, bottled at 46% ABV in Park City, Utah. A younger rye, mashed from 95% rye and 5% barley malt and distilled in a column still, is combined with an older rye from High West's own pot still, made from 80% rye and 20% malted rye. Both are at least two years old and matured in new charred American white oak.
The younger rye brings the bite, and the older pot-still rye answers with caramel sweetness and woody vanilla.
The nose is mint, clove, cinnamon, liquorice root, pine nuts and dark chocolate. Rye spice leads the palate, followed by menthol, eucalyptus and herbal tea with wildflower honey. The finish is cinnamon and mint, slowly sweetening, with a hint of anise.
