This is an 18 year old single malt from Highland Park, made in Kirkwall on Scotland's Orkney Islands and bottled at 43% ABV.
It was matured in a mix of first-fill sherry-seasoned European oak, sherry-seasoned American oak and refill oak casks. The sherry casks bring dried fruit, spice and dark chocolate, while the lightly peated malt adds a gentle smokiness. The 18 Year Old is also known as Viking Pride.
Tasting notes describe a nose of heather honey, warm cereal, cured meats, sandalwood and sage with a trace of smoke. On the palate come orange liqueur, Maraschino cherries, honeyed fruit, cocoa and a touch of peat.
