This is a 50-year-old single malt from Highland Park on Orkney, the 2021 Release, in a 75cl bottle at 43.8% ABV.
It began with nine refill casks filled in 1968. In 2008 the whisky from them was combined and moved into first-fill sherry-seasoned European oak casks, where it matured for a further thirteen years. A small amount of the previous Highland Park 50-year-old release was married into the batch.
The nose brings dried figs, Medjool dates, orange oil, dark honey and old leather. On the palate come black cherry, cocoa nib, espresso bitterness and sticky toffee, and the long, velvety finish moves into heather smoke and fruitcake.
