Highland Park Loki is the second release in the Valhalla Collection, named after Loki, Thor's adopted brother and the great shape-shifter of Norse mythology. It is a 15 year old Orkney single malt at 48.7%, in a 70cl bottle, presented in a wooden casket shaped like a Viking longship.
The vatting draws on refill sherry casks and refill hogsheads, and includes some heavily peated casks, which is unusual for Highland Park.
The nose has sea spray, candied orange peel, toffee and raisins, with stewed apple, lemon zest and honey. The palate opens with sweet smoke, then cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and marmalade. The finish brings milk chocolate, ginger, marzipan and toasted cloves.
