This is Thor, the 16 year old single malt in Highland Park's Valhalla Collection. It is gold in colour.
The nose is mineral and flinty, with red berries and a smokiness that is closer to coal than peat. It turns herbal, earthy and spicy, with honey, butterscotch and caramel. With water the earthiness comes forward, with a gamy, hammy note and a clear Havana cigar.
On the palate it is punchy and creamy, with honey, toffee, caramel, soft gingerbread and a very faint saltiness, then pepper, ginger, nutmeg and liquorice. The finish is long, with liquorice, a little cumin and bitter orange.
