Hinch 5 Year Old Double Wood is a blended Irish whiskey from Hinch Distillery in County Down, Northern Ireland, in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV.
It is matured first in first-fill bourbon casks, then spends a further year in virgin American oak, which adds depth, spice and oak influence.
The nose combines sweet vanilla, lemon zest, creamy malt and a little tobacco. On the palate it is smooth and rich, with vanilla, honey, green apple, pear, apricot and warm cinnamon. Toasted oak and gentle spice lead to a medium-long finish of honeyed fruit, melon and milk chocolate.
