Hirsch 'The Horizon' Straight Bourbon Whiskey (75cl, 46%)

Hirsch 'The Horizon' is a high-rye straight bourbon, distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and bottled by Hirsch at 46% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It was the first release from the modern Hirsch brand, in 2020. The core is a mash of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley, aged around five years. Most batches add a smaller share of older high-rye bourbon, made from 60% corn and 36% rye and aged six years or more. Each bottle gives its batch details on the back label. The nose is sweet cornbread and vanilla with dark cherry, brown sugar and a hint of chocolate. The palate brings caramel, baked bread, cinnamon and oak, with mint and cashew butter. The finish is gently sweet, with milk chocolate, toasted nuts and cinnamon.
