Hogback Eclipse is a cask strength rye whiskey from Lynchburg, Virginia, bottled at 59.4% in a 750ml bottle. The mash bill is 80% rye and 20% malt.
The whiskey matures for four to six years in Kentucky bourbon barrels, then spends a further year in Caribbean rum casks, which adds a little sweetness and depth.
On the palate it shows roasted nuts, vanilla, toasted oak and dark fruit, with a lively rye spice. The finish is long and warming.
