Horse Soldier Small Batch is a wheated, non-chill filtered bourbon bottled at 47.5% in a 750ml bottle. It is produced with Middle West Spirits in Columbus, Ohio.
The brand was founded by members of the US Army Special Forces who rode horseback into Afghanistan in the weeks after September 2001. The mashbill is 70% corn, 20% wheat and 10% barley, matured in new American oak and married from eight to ten barrels at roughly five years old.
Butterscotch, honey, ginger and baked spice lead the nose. The palate is creamy, with vanilla, brown sugar, apple and dark stone fruit, and the finish is medium-long with toffee, spicy oak and a touch of licorice root.
