Isle of Raasay – Single Cask Chinkapin Oak (70cl, 61.9%)

This is a single cask Scotch whisky from Isle of Raasay, part of the Na Sia series, matured in a cask made from Chinkapin oak. The cask was freshly charred and high-toasted, a treatment that gives early colour and flavour and caramelises the natural sugars in the wood. Chinkapin is an American white oak, and it is an unusual choice for Scotch. The whisky is bottled at a natural cask strength of 61.9%, non-chill filtered and with natural colour, from a cask that yields around 250 bottles. The nose is sweet toffee and butterscotch with caramelised wood sugars. On the palate come dark fruit, deep oak and warm spice, followed by a long finish of toasted oak and dark fruit.
