J&B Rare is a blended Scotch whisky, bottled at 40% in a 1.75-litre bottle. It brings together 42 individual malt and grain whiskies.
Speyside malts, particularly Knockando, Auchroisk and Glen Spey, form the core of the blend and give it a notably light colour and a fruit-forward character.
The nose has toffee apple and vanilla, with walnut, cedar, orange zest and a faint touch of coastal smoke. The palate is light-bodied and gently sweet, with pear, candied apple, buttery grain and white pepper. The finish is medium, with a mild peppery tingle, a brief thread of smoke and lingering malt.
