J. Rieger & Co. – Straight Bourbon Whiskey (75cl, 45%)

J. Rieger & Co. Straight Bourbon is a 45% ABV bourbon in a 750ml bottle, distilled, aged and bottled in Kansas City, Missouri. The mash bill is 56% corn, 30% rye and 14% malted barley. It is fermented as sweet mash, with a fresh start for each batch, then run through both pot and column stills and aged for at least four years in the distillery's own rickhouse. The Rieger name goes back to before Prohibition, and the family revived it in 2014 in the city's East Bottoms. Tasting notes mention candied citrus and baked bread on the nose, then orange marmalade, cracked pepper and lightly toasted coconut on the palate, ending in mild tobacco and a long, toffee-like sweetness.
