Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is a Tennessee sour mash whiskey from the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, bottled at 40% in a large 3-litre bottle. It carries no age statement.
The mashbill is 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye. After distillation the new spirit is filtered drop by drop through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal, then matured in new American white oak barrels.
The nose is vanilla, maple syrup, ripe banana and brown sugar. The palate has caramel, banana bread and a little orange peel, and the medium finish carries vanilla, ginger warmth and a faint dark chocolate bitterness.
