Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is a Tennessee whiskey from the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, bottled at 40% in a 1.75 litre bottle. The mashbill is 80% corn, 12% barley and 8% rye.
The new spirit trickles through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal before it goes into a barrel, a step taken ahead of maturation that sets Tennessee whiskey apart from bourbon. It is then reduced to 125 proof and filled into new charred American oak barrels.
Tasting notes describe caramel, vanilla, toffee and dried fruit on the nose, with a little charcoal smoke. The palate brings banana bread, brown sugar, toffee apple and a gentle rye spice, and the finish is clean, with smoky sweetness and a hint of orange peel.
