This is a Hennessy XO cognac in a 70cl bottle, dating from the 1940s. The name Jas Hennessy is embossed on the capsule, and the XO neck tag remains although the main label is gone.
Hennessy XO was created in 1870 by Maurice Hennessy and master blender Emile Fillioux, at first only for family and friends. It is a blend of more than one hundred cognacs aged for at least ten years, some for significantly longer.
The bottle predates the paper capsules that replaced lead during the metal shortages of the Second World War, and the XO decanter with its bunch of grapes designed in 1947.
