Jefferson's Ocean Voyage #26 is a double barrel rye whiskey bottled at 96 proof, or 48% ABV, in a 750 ml bottle. It begins as a straight rye aged in new charred American oak, then spends a second maturation in freshly charred barrels.
The barrels were then loaded onto a ship and sent across equatorial waters, so the whiskey matured through temperature swings, constant motion and ocean air.
The nose is toasted rye bread, caramelised sugar, cracked pepper and sea-breeze salinity, with dried cherry and vanilla. The palate brings cinnamon, black pepper and clove, then caramel, dark honey and toffee, with briny undertones. The finish is long and warming, with peppery rye, salted caramel and oak char.
