This is a straight American rye whiskey from Jefferson's, bottled at 47% ABV. It is made with at least 51% rye and matured in new charred oak barrels, then finished in cognac casks for between nine and nineteen months.
The cognac finish adds fruit and honeyed richness to the rye spice. The nose offers fig, plum, molasses, softened oak, licorice, mint and a hint of violet. On the palate, cracked pepper and baking spice give way to salted caramel, brown sugar and blackcurrant. The finish is long and smooth, with dark chocolate, vanilla and raspberry syrup fading to dry rye and gentle charred oak.
