Johnnie Walker Black Cask is a blended Scotch built on the Black Label style, bottled at 40%. It draws on single malt and grain whiskies, including smoky components and sweeter, fruitier whiskies from Speyside.
After its first maturation, the blend is moved into first-fill American bourbon barrels, casks that have held bourbon only once before. This extra time adds vanilla, caramel and a creamy texture.
The nose shows toasted oak, vanilla, honeycomb and a little peat smoke. The palate is smooth, with toffee, dried apricot and raisins, and the finish is medium to long, with oak, vanilla and gentle smoke.
