Black Cask is a blended Scotch whisky from Johnnie Walker, bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle. It starts with some of the whiskies used in the Black Label blend and matures them only in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels.
The grain whisky comes from Cameronbridge, with malts from Glen Elgin and Roseisle, and a small amount of smoky Caol Ila remains in the blend. The higher bottling strength, compared with Black Label's 40%, was chosen to bring out spice.
The nose is creamy vanilla and caramel with toasted oak and baking spice, later cherry and cinnamon. The palate is silky and honeyed, with butterscotch, milk chocolate and a thread of smoke. The finish is warm, with light spice and a gentle smoky fade.
