Johnnie Walker Double Black (75cl, 40%)

Johnnie Walker Double Black is a blended Scotch whisky built on the Black Label recipe, with a larger share of peated West Coast and Islay malts. It is matured in deep-charred oak casks and carries no age statement, which leaves the blenders free to use younger, peat-forward components. It was first released in 2011 as a travel-retail bottling. The charred casks add toasted wood, dried fruit and warm spice to the smoke. It is blended and bottled by John Walker & Sons in Kilmarnock, at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle. Campfire smoke leads on the nose, with toasted oak, dried fruit and vanilla. The palate brings rich peat smoke, toffee, dark spice and raisin with a little citrus, and the finish is long and warming.
