Johnnie Walker Double Black Label is a blended Scotch whisky from John Walker & Sons, made as a smokier, more intense take on Black Label. It first appeared in 2011 as a travel retail exclusive before reaching a wider market, and it carries no age statement.
The blend uses a higher proportion of heavily peated West Coast and Islay malts, including Caol Ila and Talisker, and is aged in deep charred old oak casks. It is bottled at 40% (80 proof) in a 750ml square bottle.
The nose is smoky, with peat, wood char and roasted coffee over dried fruit, vanilla and dark chocolate. On the palate come peat, charred oak and raisin, then vanilla cream, leather, espresso, clove and pepper. The finish is long and smoky, ending on bonfire smoke.
